Toddler Naps
Most kids are ready to give up morning naps at around 18 months, but experts say that toddlers still need a 1 to 2 hour afternoon rest between the ages 2 and 3.  Jodi Mindell, Ph.D., a child psychologist at St. Joseph's University in Philadelphia, recommends that that your child settle down at the same time and in the same place each day.  Don't let him sleep in the car or in his stroller, which could disrupt his schedule.  Most toddlers are ready to settle down soon after lunch.  Keep the routine short--a quick story, then let your child go to sleep, in his clothes, in a dark room.  If your busy toddler says he's not sleepy, insist that he have some quiet time in his bed anyway.  Even if he doesn't fall asleep, he'll benefit from resting.
